Town and Country Exhibition
Exhibition runs until Tuesday, 14 April 2009 in Monster Truck Gallery & Friday, 17 April in Across the Way GalleryOpening hours: 12pm – 6pm (apart from Sunday 1pm – 5pm).
Get the bus from Town to Country for a unique evening of coaches, culchies, costumes and contemporary art by 50 artists in 2 very different locations. In it’s biggest collaboration yet, Monster Truck Gallery and Studios (MTG&S) is uniting forces with Across the Way Gallery & Studios (ATW) in a gallery swap exhibition between the two organisations. Although like-minded in their goals and activities, MTG&S and ATW’s two gallery locations could not be more different; MTG&S is located on bustling Francis Street in Dublin city, while ATW is based the more rural setting of in Kinsealy, North County Dublin. Despite this many associated artists cross over in their involvement in both organisations and this brought about the idea for the show. The theme of Town & Country was conjured up as the exhibitions starting point. Deciding to include artists associated with both spaces (studios members, represented and also selected artists) just over 50 artists were invited to submit a piece of work based around the theme of town or country, the urban or the rural.Artists chosen to represent MTG&S are asked to make a piece for the ATW and likewise artists associated with ATW will be asked to submit work for display in Monster Truck Gallery – 18 exhibitors at MTG&S and 33 exhibitors at ATW. The resulting exhibitions will include a whole range of different media including painting, drawing, video, sculpture, installation, photography, sound and performance.
There will be an emphasis on installation art in the surroundings of ATW, which has many interesting places for outdoor site-specific installation.Details of the opening night:The exhibition will launch at 6pm on Friday 10th April in Monster Truck Gallery. There will be coaches arriving at 8pm to pick up artists & attendees to take them to Across the Way, Kinsealy where the exhibition will continue. To add to the fun of the night we’ve decided to make this a fancy dress night in the same theme as the show… so get your country bumpkin or city slicker outfits ready!

Heres an acrylic painting I submitted for Monster Truck Gallery’s annual “Art Swap”, currently hanging in the IMOCA – Irish Museum Of Contemporary Art until mid April. Each artist was assigned a number. Two numbers were picked at a time and so their pieces were swapped. I got a lovely piece and I’ll post up a flick of it when I get it. About 60 artists took part. The Art Swap show is being exhibited alongside a number of pieces of installation of communal and solo works including “The Good Hatchery“.
